Germans Hold Sioux City Man

Informs Parents of Capture on Father’s Birth Anniversary

From Private First Class Robert B. Hawkins, 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. Luke Hawkins, 1300 22d Street, came a post card Monday saying that he was a prisoner in a German Camp. The word reached the family on Mr. Hawkins’ 73d birthday.
Private Hawkins said he was “all right and please don’t worry, hope and pray for a speedy reunion.”

He observed his last birthday, April 8, as a prisoner of war.
Private Hawkins entered the service in May, 1941, and first was stationed at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana. He went to Fort Dix, New Jersey, preceded to Northern Ireland and later to Algeria where he fell into German hands February 14.
Mrs. O. AE. De Mond, Elkhart, Indiana, a sister, said that the post card carried first news of his capture.
