Sgt. Blyde William Harper

 

 

Blyde William Harper was born Oct. 7, 1917 to Lisle I. and Harriet May Whisler Harper. He died Apr. 18, 1945 and is buried in Newton Union Cemetery, Newton, IA.

Sgt. Harper served in World War II with the U.S. Army 330th Infantry, 83rd Infantry Division and was lead scout for the assault platoon, Co. F, when it met heavy enemy resistance and he was instantly killed from shell fragments from a bazooka shell that landed near him in Wernigerode, Germany.
