Identity of Soldier Prisoner Is Revealed

The identity of a Sioux City soldier mentioned in a letter to Mayor Forrest M. Olson has been established as James C. Honsky, 24, technician fifth grade, son of Mr. and Mrs. August C. Honsky 1707 Magnolia Street.

The writer of the letter told of a short wave Berlin broadcast he had heard on the night of April 15. All that he could get of the message was, “From James Honsky to Otis Honsky, 1707 (not sure of the rest of address) Sioux City, Iowa, Dear Dad; I am fine and hope everyone is o.k. there.”

Private Honsky about a year ago was reported missing in action in the North African theater of war. Later his parents were informed officially that he was a German prisoner of war. He is a graduate of Central High School and was a carrier for both The Journal and The Journal-Tribune.
