Edward George Holt, Sr. was born Aug. 20, 1922 to Byron David and Ludie Overland Holt. He died May 21, 1988 and is buried in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, IA.

Pvt. Holt served with the U.S. Army in World War II.

Edward G. Holt, Sr., 65, of Webster City, died Saturday, May 21 at the Veteran’s Hospital in Des Moines where he had been a patient since April.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 24 at the Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Raymond Roden and Rev. Leroy Miltner officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Foster Funeral Home from 4 p.m. today until 9:30 a.m. Tuesday when the casket will be taken to the church.

Edward George Holt, son of Byron and Luddie Overland Holt, was born August 20, 1922 at Story City. He received his education at Story City and Webster City. He served with the U.S. Army from Nov. of 1942 until Jan. of 1946 with the 13th Armored Division in European Theater.

On June 22, 1956, he married Mary Jane Merz at Webster City. The couple resided here from 1947 until 1963. He was employed at the Forrester’s Dairy and Morton Frozen Food. The family then moved to Williams and he was employed in construction work.

In 1976, he returned to Webster City and was employed at the Hamilton County Conservation Commission in the Greenthumb Program. He retired in 1967 due to failing health.

Survivors are his wife, four sons and one daughter, Byron David III of Webster City, Edward George Junior of Radcliffe, Susanna (Mrs. James) McFarland of Hubbard, Frank Romaine of Webster City, John William of Des Moines; 12 grandchildren; one brother, Dean Holt of Ellsworth.

Mr. Holt was preceded in death by his parents. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a former VFW member, and a member of the American Legion Post 191.
