Obituary:

JOPLIN, Mo. — Maurice F. Hinds, age 89, of Joplin, passed away on Friday Feb. 1, 2013, at Spring River Christian Village, following a brief illness.

Maurice was born on April 27, 1923, in Jewell, Iowa, the son of the late Glenn and Lucy (Sanborn) Hinds. He graduated from Stratford High School in Stratford, Iowa. After graduation he worked on the family farm. He was called to serve his country in WWII, serving in the United States Army.

Upon returning from WWII, he married Ruby Kern on Jan. 6, 1952. He continued to farm until 1955, when they moved to Joplin, where he attended Ozark Christian College, graduating in 1960. As an ordained minister, he ministered to churches in Missouri, Iowa, and Oklahoma. Following his ministry at the Christian Church in Heavener, Okla., he worked full-time for the State of Oklahoma Department of Human Services. During this time, he continued to minister part-time. Upon his retirement in 1993, he and his wife, moved to Joplin, where Maurice worked part-time in public relations for Spring River Christian Village and continued to preach as a fill-in minister. He was a member of the College Heights Christian Church. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Kiwanis Club.

He is survived by his wife, of 61 years, Ruby Hinds, Joplin; one son, Marshall Hinds, Webb City, Mo.; three daughters, Holly Milliken and husband, Paul, Novelty, Mo., Lorna Lang and husband, Jerry, Grinnell, Iowa, and Gina Hinds, Ozark, Mo.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three nieces. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Nola Beth Hinds; a brother, Loren Hinds; and a sister, Doris Hinds.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at College Heights Christian Church. Rick Bushnell and Paul Milliken, Ministers, will officiate. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The pallbearers will be Ryan Milliken, Jared Lang, Joseph Lang, Jason Miller, Kyle Schafer, Daniel McCoy, Denton Mead, and Rick Keller. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be given to Good News Productions or POEM (Peace On Earth Ministries) in care of the mortuary.
