Virgil Lloyd Hilpipre

 

 

 

Virgil Lloyd Hilpipre was born Jan. 21, 1919 to Charles Victor and Jessie Belle Rapp Hilpipre. He died May 1, 1977 and is buried in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, IA.

Virgil served with the U.S. Army in World War II with the 113th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division.

Virgil L. Hilpipre, 56, longtime Woolstock-Webster City area resident, died early Sunday morning at the Hamilton County hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Foster Funeral home with the Rev. Vincent James officiating and with burial in Graceland cemetery. A flag-folding ceremony will be held at graveside by the American Legion post 191.

Virgil Lloyd Hilpipre, son of Charles and Jessie Rapp Hilpipre, was born Jan. 21, 1919 in Wright County. He was reared and educated in the Blairsburg community.

On April 6, 1946, he was united in marriage to Phyllis McCollough, and the couple farmed for a short time after their marriage, later operating taverns in Webster City and Woolstock. He engaged in the mink-raising business until 1969 when he retired, because of ill health.

The couple continued to reside in Woolstock after his retirement.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Denny Hilpipre of Woolstock and Bruce and Chris Hilpipre, both of Webster City; two grandchildren, Sara and Alyssa Hilpipre; his mother, Mrs. C.V. Hilpipre, Webster City; four brothers, Alvin of Mystic, Iowa, Wayne of Webster City, Howard of Woolstock and Donald of Plainfield, Wis.; five sisters, Mrs. John (Vera) Olson of Webster City, Mrs. Norval (LaVonne) Story, Woolstock, Mrs. Glenn (Letty) Reisetter of Radcliffe, Mrs. Richard (Mildred) King of Webster City and Mrs. Vernon (Mary Lou) Deidrich, Osage.

He was preceded in death by one son, Roger, Dec. 2, 1976; his father, Charles V. Hilpipre and two brothers.

He attended the United Methodist church in Woolstock and was a member of the American Legion, being a World War II veteran.
