Cpl. Charles Ralph Hersman

 

 

Lance Cpl. Charles Ralph Hersman was born Feb. 3, 1906 to Alden Ralph “Ralph” and Margaret Hersman. He died Jan. 5, 1942 and is buried in Brookwood Military Cemetery, Brookwood, Surrey, England.

Cpl. Hersman was the first of Clarion’s men to die in battle since the Civil War. He died of injuries sustained in England in Dec. 1941. At the time, London was under persistent bombardment by the Germans. During a blackout and intensive assault that created extreme havoc, Charles was hit by truck and fatally injured.
