Mother Gets Word of Sgt. Hegquist’s Death and Burial

Mrs. Mabel J. Hegquist, 1316 26th Street, has received a letter from Chaplain William H. McCance with the 1347th engineer construction group in France, giving details of the death July 19, of her son, S. Sgt. Raymond A. Hegquist.

S. Sgt. Hegquist died as a result of an accident suffered while on a motor convoy trip from Pierry, France to headquarters Camp New Orleans. He was immediately taken to the 16th general hospital at Challons, the chaplain stated.

Burial was July 20 in the American military cemetery 1, Champaigneul, near Epinal, France and memorial services were conducted for officers and friends of his organization at Camp New Orleans Sunday, July 22. Full military honors were accorded him.

Raymond Arthur Hegquist was born Aug. 20, 1921 to Arthur Wilhelm and Mabel Josephine Johnson Hegquist. He died July 19, 1945 and is buried in Epinal American Cemetery and Memorial, Dinoze, France.
