REPORT HARRIS, PILOT, MISSING

Stuart, Ia. -- First Lieutenant Marion E. Harris, bomber pilot operating in the middle eastern area, has been reported missing in action since, May 1, the same day his son was born at a Des Moines hospital.

Mrs. Harris makes her home here with her father, Roy A. Wright. They have another child, Mary Ann, 4. Lieutenant Harris is the son of A.E. Harris of Maxwell, Ia. He was graduated from the State University of Iowa in 1937 and was teaching and coaching at Woodward, Ia. High School when he was called to duty in 1941.

The news of his son's birth was cabled to Lieutenant Harris but it is not known if he received the message. He recently had received the Air Medal.

Marion Edward Harris was born Feb. 9, 1916 to Alva Edward and Lillie Pearl Dickinson Harris. He died May 1, 1943 and is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing, North Africa American Cemetery, Tunis, Tunisia and has a cenotaph in Colo Cemetery, Colo, iA.

Capt. Harris served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 345th Bomb Squadron, 98th Bomb Group and was MIA and awarded the Purple Heart and Air Medal.
