Lt. Herbert Andrew Hansen

 

 

 

"Lt. Hansen was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross and Purple Heart for leading his company in an assault on strong enemy positions. He was mortally wounded but refused to be evacuated until his company had reorganized and constructed strong defensive positions on the objective. He succumbed to his wounds while being evacuated to the aid station. His determined courage and aggressive leadership reflect the finest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States."

Herbert Andrew Hansen was born Nov. 21, 1918 to Carl August and Anna Kristine Petersen Hansen. He died Jan. 12, 1944 and is buried in Sicily-Rome American Cemetery and Memorial, Nettuno, Italy.

Lt. Hansen served in World War II with the U.S. Army Co. G, 168th Infantry and died of wounds received in action while serving in Italy.
