Sioux City Marine In Alaska Observes Two Anniversaries

Dutch Harbor, Alaska – A Sioux City leatherneck had a special reason for celebrating the 168th birthday of the United States Marine Corps, which was commemorated by the Dutch Harbor command. Also Private First Class Elvin W. Goodwin, November 10, marked the first anniversary of his enlisted in the corps.

A dinner and party attended by officers and men of the detachment signalized the occasion. Entertainment featured barracks talent.

Private First Class Goodwin is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd B. Goodwin, 809 Jones Street. The 20-year-old marine attended Mapleton, Iowa High School, where he played football and basketball. He was a civilian machinist at the Puget Sound navy year in Bremerton, Washington until his enlistment.

He received recruit training at San Diego where he won medals for proficiency with the rifle and bayonet.
