3 Sons, Son-In-Law Of This Sioux City Couple in Service


Three sons and a son-in-law in service is the record of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Manzer, 119 W. Third Street.

The eldest son, Private Leo Manzer, is stationed at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, Corporal Robert Manzer is stationed at Lowry field, Colorado, and the youngest son, William L. Manzer, 18, is spending a leave with his parents after completing boot training at Farragut, Idaho.

The son-in-law, Private First Class Vernon Fleck, also is stationed at Fort Leavenworth.

Son-in-law Vernon F. “Vern” Fleck was born Jan. 11, 1922 to Carl B. and Maude E. Hunt Fleck. He died June 11, 2017 and is buried in Calvary Cemetery, Sioux City, IA.

Vern served in World War II with the U.S. Army.
