John W. Evans was born Sept. 12, 1913 to John and Charlotte Bedell Evans. He died Apr. 9, 1998 at Mason City, IA.

John served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II.

John Evans, 84, Mason City

John W. Evans, 84, Mason City, died Thursday, April 9, 1998 at North Iowa Mercy Hospital in Mason City. Funeral services were held today at St. John’s Episcopal Church at Mason City, with Rev. Robert Towner officiating. Private internment will be held at a later date in Ames.

John W. Evans, son of John and Charlotte (Bedell) Evans, was born in Minneapolis on Sept. 12, 1913. He graduated from Fort Dodge High School and attended the University of Iowa. He finished his college education at Iowa State University. He served in the U S Air Corps during World War II. On March 16, 1941, he married Marjorie Howard in Ames. Mr. Evans was president and owner of Cashway Lumber Stores in Iowa.

He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Mary Provost, Nancy Evans and Elizabeth Evans Reitz, all of Tucson, Ariz., and Katie Evans, San Antonio, Texas, five grandchildren, and a sister, Helen Reuter, Fort Dodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Elizabeth Beamer.

Mr. Evans served on the board of several Iowa banks, was past-president of the Iowa Lumberman’s Association and Northwestern Lumberman’s Association. He was also past-president of Rotary and Paul Harris Fellow. He was chairman of the advisory board for Hauschild Insurance Co. of Minneapolis, and a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church.

Memorials may be given to the John W. Evans Memorial Fund.
