Dean Carroll Erbes was born Mar. 13 1927 to John J. and Carrie Hegland Erbes. He died Dec. 2, 1999 and is buried in Homewood Cemetery, Ellsworth, IA.

Dean served with the U.S. Navy in World War II.

Obituary:

Dean Erbes, age 72, of Ellsworth, died Thursday, December 2, 1999 at his home. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, December 4, 1999 at Trinity Lutheran church in Ellsworth with Rev. Jim Norem officiating. Burial followed at Homewood Cemetery in Ellsworth with military honors by the Ellsworth American Legion Post. A memorial fund has been established and gifts may be sent to Ruth Erbes at P.O. Box 311 in Ellsworth, IA, 50075.

Dean Carroll Erbes was born March 13, 1927 in Lee, Illinois to John and Carrie (Hegland) Erbes. He grew up in the Radcliffe area and graduated from Radcliffe High School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Philippines in World War II. On November 23, 1947, Dean married Ruth Hanson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth. Dean was a barber and life insurance agent and had served as the Hamilton County Treasurer. He retired in 1987. Dean was a member of Trinity Lutheran church of Ellsworth, where he had been a trustee, deacon and congregation president. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Ellsworth Business Men’s Association, serving as president.

Dean is survived by his wife, Ruth of Ellsworth; a son, Dr. Rick Erbes of Estherville; three daughters, Donna Murphy of Crisco, Sandy Thompson of Ellsworth and Linda Hunter of Webster City; twelve grandchildren, Troy, Tami, Lisa, Sarah, Carrie, Matt, Joe, Lindsay, Courtney, Taylor, Trevor, and Tucker; three great grandchildren, Tyler, Cody, and Mikaela; and a brother John Erbes of Marion. His parents and a brother, Donald Erbes, preceded him in death.
