Walter Hyink, Randall Stover, Case Elshuis and Warden Hulst left Sunday for Omaha for their army physical examination and induction.

Walter Hyink and Randall Stover passed their physical examinations last Monday and were inducted but Case Elshuis was rejected. Warden Hulst passed his examination and was inducted into the Navy.

Pvt. Cornelius Elshuis, son-in-law of Mr. Art Vanden Brink, has an overseas address which is on file at the News Office. Cornelius is in the medical corp and has been in the service for five and a half months.

Pvt. Cornelius Elshuis, son-in-law of Mr. Art Vanden Brink of Sioux Center entered the service on Dec. 3. He received his basic training at Camp Grant. He has had one furlough in April. He has been stationed at Camp Beale, Calif. until just recently Mr. Vanden Brink received his overseas address. Arthur is in limited service due to his eyes. Prior to his entrance he was a truck driver in Hospers.

Pvt. Cornelius Elshuis, son-in-law of Mr. Art Vanden Brink of Sioux Center, has a new address which we cannot publish. Call the News or the Vanden Brink home or his wife who lives in Hospers if you wish to write to him. Cornelius is now in a Medical Unit in New Guinea. He was a truck driver before entering the service and his wife is employed in the meat market in Hospers.

Iowa, U. S., WWII Bonus Case Files 1947-1954, Claim No. 34179

Cornelius Elshuis was born Aug. 8, 1908 at East Saugatuck, Michigan, and was living at Hospers, Iowa prior to entering the Army on Dec. 2, 1943 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He served with the 982nd Ambulance Company, departed for foreign service on May 26, 1944 and returned on Dec. 14, 1945. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 24, 1945. His application for bonus pay was filed on May 6, 1949, for which he received $317.50.

Cornelius “Case” Elshuis was born Aug. 8, 1908 to Herman and Dina Capel Elshuis. He died Aug. 15, 1994 and is buried in Hospers Cemetery, Hospers, IA.
