43 Men To Leave For Service Nov. 6

Of the group of 74 who went to Des Moines last week 43 must report for duty next week Friday, Nov. 6. Of the remaining 31, nine have enlisted into special services, 3 were transferred to other states, and on the remaining 19 we cannot get definite information. It was reported, however, that 11 were rejected and 8 held over in Des Moines for further examination, but we could not get a list of the names of this group.

Neal Dykhuizen, son of Mrs. Jennie Dykhuizen is now stationed at Fort Sill, Okla. He left for the army in November. His brother Bert left this week Wednesday, Jan 20. Neal’s address is as follows: Pvt. Neal Dykhuizen 37440503, Co. D 170th Inf. Bn. Field Art. School, Fort Sill, Okla. Several Sioux County men are now at Fort Sill, having moved there the last few weeks from Camp Robinson, Ark. Among them are Andrew Vermeer, John A. Vande Brake, John H. De Groot and Casper Vander Ploeg. These boys have made good in their rifle practices and are now on a rifle demonstration squad. They stay in a large hotel and so have many luxuries.

8 SIOUX COUNTY BOYS AT FT. SILL

Here are eight Sioux County boys located at Ft. Sill, Okla. Reading from left to right they are: John De Groot, Andrew Vermeer, Jake Konning, Henry De Groot, Gerrit Van Otterloo, Neal Dykhuizen, John Vander Berg and Casper Vander Ploeg. All of them were in one barracks building. Arend Voorderman is also there, but not on the picture. The boys seemed to think Elmer Lutjens was still there but he has been in Indiantown Gap, Penn. for several months now. Lt. Marvin Grotenhuis is again at Ft. Sill for some special training, having gone back there just recently from Denton, Texas.

Pvt. Neal Dykhuizen and wife and baby daughter were visitors at the home of his sister and family, M. Verhey. Pvt. Neal enjoyed a 10-day furlough with his family. He left for Fort Sill, Okla. Tuesday morning.

A farewell was held at the John Fedders home Thursday evening for Pfc. Neal Dykhuizen who had a 10-day furlough enroute from Fort Benning, Ga. where he completed a 3 months course of mechanics instruction.

Mr. and Mrs. Pfc. Neal Dykhuizen and Nelva were dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M. Verhey on Thursday. Mrs. Verhey is a sister of Neal. Neal has completed his mechanics course at Fort Benning, Ga. from which he graduated and now left for Fort Sill, Okla. after a 10-day furlough. Pfc. Neal Dykhuizen and wife attended the reception held for Pfc. John De Groot and his bride. John is also at Fort Sill, a roommate of Neal.

Neal Dykhuizen, SN 37440503, was born Jan. 5, 1915 at Sioux Center, Iowa and was living at Orange City, Iowa prior to entering the Army on Nov. 6, 1942 at Camp Dodge, Iowa. He served with the 170th Inf. and the 358th Inf. 10th Div., departed for foreign service on March 23, 1944, returned on October 15, 1945 and was honorably discharged on October 31, 1945. His application for bonus pay was filed on May 18, 1949, for which he received $427.50.
