Lieut. Joseph Dufort Awarded Second Oak Leaf Cluster


An Eighth A.A.F. Bomber Station, England
– Second Lieut. Joseph Jr. Dufort, 21, of Sioux City, Iowa, who has been awarded the second oak leaf cluster to the air medal for “courage, coolness and skill” as a copilot during the Eighth A.A.F. preinvasion blitz of industrial and military targets in Germany and France.

Lieut. Dufort has flown on many missions to targets that form the nerve center of the German war machine. In addition he has taken part in attacks on targets behind the German lines in France when his group hit important installations, contributing to the initial success of the invasion.

The son of John O. Dufort of Los Angeles, California, Lieut. Dufort was graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach, California, in 1941. His wife, Mrs. Josephine R. Dufort lives at 2715 Dodge Avenue, Sioux City. Prior to entering the A.A.F. in May, 1942, Lieut. Dufort was a student. He received his pilots wings in October 1943.
