Cpl. Clifford LaVerne Duckett

 

 

 

Clifford LaVerne Duckett was born Sept. 21, 1921 to Frederick William and Daisy Mae Rosenstiel Duckett. He died Feb. 10, 1945 and is memorialized in Stanley Cemetery, Stanley, IA.

Cpl. Duckett served with the U.S. Army in World War II with Co. A of the 301st Engineer Battalion and was assigned the task of building a foot bridge across the Sauer River in the vicinity of Echternach, Luxembourg. He and five other soldiers were attempting to establish a bridge-head on the far shore of the river which was swollen due to the heavy rain. The boat they were in capsized, spilling them all into the river. Only two survived.
