Basil Ralph Doughten was born Feb. 3, 1924 to Charles Arthur “The Skipper” and Pansy Belle Nelson Doughten. He died Feb. 27, 1984 and is buried in the Saint Charles Cemetery, St. Charles, IA.

Pvt. Doughten served with the U.S. Army in World War II.

His Obituary:

Funeral services for Basil R. Doughten, 60, were held at 1 p.m. today at Hamilton’s Funeral home in Des Moines with burial in the St. Charles, Iowa cemetery. The Rev. Ron Strack officiated at the services.

Mr. Doughten died Monday morning, Feb. 27 at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines following a heart attack.

Basil R. Doughten, son of Charles and Pansy Nelson Doughten, was born Feb. 3, 1924 at Woolstock, Iowa. He attended the Webster City schools.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was married to Phyllis Brafford, who survives him. Other survivors include his son Geoffry of Glendale, Calif.; and two sisters, Mrs. Loren Sturtz of Ankeny and Mrs. Merlyn Batcheller of Littleton, Colo.
