Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marines, was stationed in Hawaii and received an honorable discharge in 1954. On October 21, 1950, he married Donna Handy at Des Moines. They made their home south of Stanhope, where Hans farmed with his brother, LeVerne. Hans loved the outdoors and was often spotted at his favorite fishing hole at Briggs Woods Lake or his cabin near Duluth, MN. He could always be quoted as saying “A bad day fishing is always better than any day at work”. Hans will be dearly missed by many, especially his fishing pals.
