Arnold LaVerne ‘LaVerne’ Dickinson was born Mar. 6, 1912 to Orin and Anna Margaret Abrahamson Dickinson. He died Sept. 10, 2006 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Webster City, IA.

Arnold served with the U.S. Army in World War II with Co. D, 774th Tank Battalion.

His Obituary:

LaVerne Dickinson, age 94, of Jewell, died Sunday, September 10, 2006 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Memorial services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 16. 2006 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell with Rev. Michael Werner to officiate. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell. Visitation is Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Becker Funeral Home in Jewell. Memorial gifts may be sent to Gertrude Dickinson at 1002 Second St., Apt. 3, Jewell, IA 50130.

Arnold LaVerne Dickinson was born March 6, 1912 in Gilbert, Iowa to Orin and Anna Margaret (Abrahamson) Dickinson. On September 9, 1943 LeVerne married Gertrude Eleanor Boyd in Story City. LeVerne was a tank commander in the U.S. Army during World War II serving from Normandy to Central Europe and fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. He returned to Central Iowa living in Jewell, where he and Gertrude have made their home for 60 years. They farmed for 12 years, and then LeVerne worked for the State of Iowa, Hamilton County, and the City of Jewell as a maintenance worker. He was also the City of Jewell police officer. LeVerne worked for Becker Funeral Home for many years. He was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church, the VFW, American Legion, Jewell Fire and Rescue Department, and the Jewell Lions Club.

LaVerne is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gertrude of Jewell; two sons, Arlin (Kathy) Dickinson of Webster City and Bruce Dickinson of Valley Village, California; his daughter, Linda Roy of Jewell; grandchildren Adam Dickinson, Teresa Dingman, Amber Dunn, Sarah Roy, and A.J. Dickinson; great grandchildren, Carri, Jovannai, Brittani, Taylor, Tiana, Skye, Nick, and Alex; and a brother Hans Dickinson of Webster City.

Becker Funeral Home in Jewell handled the arrangements.
