Sgt. Herman De Young, son of Mr. and Mrs. John De Young, of near Melvyn and formerly of Sanborn, has been awarded the bronze star for meritorious service in combat from June 1944 through January 1945. He served on the Fifth army front as operations sergeant of his battalion of the 133d infantry regiment, 34th “Red Bull” division.
