S/Sgt. Lorance E. De Vries, 17157874 moved recently from Camp Robinson, Arkansas to the following new location: 4th P.O.T.C., Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Aberdeen, Maryland. He will take a course in the repair of instruments controlling anti-aircraft guns, and expects to be there for about ten weeks. He says the food there is excellent, and it is a very fine place to be stationed. The only complaint he has is the fact that he is so busy he scarcely has a moment to himself.

1st Sgt. Lorance De Vries has a new overseas address available from his mother or from the News office. He left Camp Chaffee, Arkansas last week for his Port of Embarkation and it is expected that he is enroute overseas by this time. He was recently promoted to First Sergeant.

LOCAL BOYS MEET IN MANILA
T/4 Lawrence Wissink, who was transferred recently from Panama to Manila in the Philippines, writes that he met Lorance De Vries and they went over the latest copy of the Sioux Center News together. Lawrence has been quite homesick and the sight of a familiar face there was a real treat.

LORANCE DE VRIES
Lorance De Vries arrived home Sunday after three years in the service, a year of which he spent overseas in both the European and Pacific theaters. In recent months he stopped at the Philippine Islands and Japan. He arrived in the states last Thursday, and after being formally discharged, came to Sioux Center where his wife and small son have been staying with his mother part of the time. Lorance will take some time off to adapt himself to civilian living again, and then may go back into the jewelry business in which he was engaged when he entered the service. He has no definite plans as to where.

Iowa, U. S., WWII Bonus Case Files 1947-1954, Claim No. 159421

Lorance E. De Vries, SN 17157874, was born July 6, 1916 at Hull, Iowa and was living at Sioux Center, Iowa prior to entering the army on Dec. 14, 1942 at Fort Snelling, Minn. He served at Camp Caliborne, Louisiana; with the 103rd Inf. Div. and the 140th Ord. Heavy Maint. Co. He departed for foreign service Feb. 11, 1945, returned Feb. 3, 1946, and was honorably discharged on Feb. 9, 1946. His application for bonus pay was filed June 14, 1949, for which he received a $430 bonus.
