Maj. Joseph J. DeRaad, son of Mrs. M. P. Mackay of Des Moines, is serving with the air transport command in the European theater of operations. He is intelligence and security officer and provost marshal at a base in Paris. Maj DeRaad formerly served with the air transport command in the China, Burma, India theater. A graduate of Morningside college and Drake university, he was a special agent for the Iowa bureau of criminal investigation and then a United States secret service agent assigned to the White House detail for protection of the President, until he was commissioned in April 1942. He served with the Iowa National Guard for six years prior to entering the army. His wife lives in, Alexandria, Va.
