Pvt. Merle Van Roekel and Pvt. Abe De Groot both home on furlough entertained a large group of friends at a skating party at the local skating rink on Tuesday evening.

Pfc. John De Groot arrived in Sioux City last Saturday morning to spend a 30 day overseas furlough at the parental Abe De Groot home here. John has been overseas for five months and was with the 35th division of the 3rd army and did not see action while there, as he had just finished his training and was ready to go when V-E day came. Pvt. Abe De Groot also a son of Mr. and Mrs. Abe De Groot Sr. left again last Wednesday morning to report at Fort Ord, Calif. after enjoying a ten day furlough at the parental home, so the brothers just missed seeing each other by three days. Abe has been in training at Fort Riley, Kansas and expects to be sent overseas in the near future.
