Pvt. Melvin Maynard Darnell

 

 

 

Melvin Maynard Darnell was born Feb. 2, 1925 to Clarence R. and Bertha Luella Crouch Darnell. He died Feb. 13, 2004 and is buried in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, IA.

Pvt. Darnell served with the U.S. Army in World War II with the 69th General Hospital.

Melvin M. Darnell, 79, Eldon, MO

Melvin Maynard Darnell, age 79 of Eldon, Mo. died February 13, 2004, at the Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco, TX. He was born in Webster City on February 2, 1925, a son of Clarence Ray and Bertha (Crouch) Darnell. On May 4, 1946, in Webster City he was married to Rose Marie Dalbey, who preceded him in death on June 23, 1999.

He was an Army veteran of WW II and served as Commander of the Webster City American Legion Post 191 for several years. He moved to the Lake of the Ozarks, MO area from Webster City in 1968 and owned Beachcomber Resort. He worked for Pruitt Mobile Home Sales and retired from Tasco Industries.

Survivors include three daughters, Constance Sweet of Clarion, Sally Barr of Russellville, Mo. and Denise Scrivner of Lake Ozark, Mo., four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A granddaughter preceded him in death.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements are under the direction of Rekus Funeral Home in Eldon, MO.
