Dean William Coulter was born Dec. 22, 1928 to James R. and Hannah L. Peterson Coulter. He died Jan. 12, 2003 and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Stratford, IA.

Dean served with the U.S. Army in the occupation forces in Italy for one year as a member of the 88th Blue Devil, 350th Infantry Division.

Dean William Coulter, 74, formerly of 1012 Moore Street in Stratford, Iowa passed away at the Stratford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Stratford, Iowa on Sunday morning, January 12, 2003, due to complications from Parkinsons. He had been a resident at the Stratford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Stratford since July of 1999.

He was born December 22, 1928 the son of James Robert and Hannah Louise (Peterson) Coulter at their farm home northeast of Stratford, Iowa.

Dean attended the White Elephant country school northeast of Stratford and graduated from Stratford High School in 1946.

He enlisted for 2 years in the United States Army, serving in the occupation forces in Italy for one year as a member of the 88th Blue Devil, 350th Infantry Division.

On September 18, 1949, he married LaVonne Johnson.

The couple farmed northeast of Stratford and Dean worked at Electrolux in Webster City, Iowa for 30 years, retiring in 1990. They enjoyed traveling and spent the winter months in Arizona after retirement.

Dean was a member of the American Legion Fredrick Sonksen Post #576 in Stratford and the UAW Local #442 in Webster City, Iowa.

His parents, one son William Dean in October of 1973, one brother, Robert Coulter and two sisters Maxine Jans and Audrey Coulter preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife LaVonne of Stratford, Iowa; two daughters, Kathryn Coulter of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Carol Coulter of Des Moines, Iowa; one son James Coulter and his wife Rebecca of Centralia, Missouri; one granddaughter, Tania Coulter of Des Moines, Iowa; two grandsons, Michael Coulter and Andrew Coulter both of Centralia, Missouri; two brothers-in-law, Wallace Jans of Ellsworth, Iowa and Ronald Johnson of Stratford, Iowa, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services were held on Wednesday, January 15, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. at the Stratford Baptist Church in Stratford, Iowa with the Rev. James Mead officiating.

Interment was in the Oakwood Cemetery north of Stratford, Iowa.

Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Stratford, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.
