PVT. Costello Killed In Italy

Wife Here Receives Word of His Death from Chaplin

Pvt. Ralph J. Costello, 29, was killed in action February 5 in Italy. Mrs. Costello and their two children, Phyllis and Tommy, were notified in Omaha where they have been living since Pvt. Costello’s induction here.

They are visiting this week in the home of Mrs. Costello’s sister-in-law, Mrs. Hazel Taylor, 2026 S. Cleveland Street. Also surviving are Pvt. Costello’s father, John Costello, 709 Court Street, and mother, Mrs. C.B. Ament of Omaha.

Pvt. Costello was born in DeWitt County, Iowa June 17, 1916 and attended the DeWitt schools until he came to Sioux City when 14 years of age. He and Marie Taylor were married May 16, 1935, here and lived at 4501 Correctionville Road until the war.

Mrs. Costello has received a letter from the Catholic chaplain who was with her husband when he died. Death came almost immediately after Pvt. Costello was wounded, the chaplain wrote the widow.
