Kenneth William Cordes was born May 13, 1924 to William and Bessie A. Robbins Cordes. He died Dec. 13, 1999 and is buried in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, IA.

Kenneth served with the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II in the Pacific Theater of Action and was in the Battle of Iwo Jima.

Obituary:

Kenneth Cordes, 75, Webster City, died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Foster Funeral Home with Cindi O’Brien officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #191.

Kenneth William Cordes, son of William and Bessie Robbins Cordes, was born May 13, 1924 in Independence Township of Hamilton County. He graduated from Kamrar High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College. During World War II, he served with the Marines in Pacific Theater of Action. He had been in the Battle of Iwo Jima. On Dec. 22, 1946, he married Margie LaVera Hemmen at Kamrar. The couple farmed southwest of Kamrar. He was a State Farm Insurance agent in Allison and later at Eldora. While in Eldora, he also operated a D-X Service Station. They moved to Iowa Falls in 1967, where he operated the Goodyear and Firestone Tire Store until the early 1980’s. They retired to Webster City in 1990. Mrs. Cordes died on Sept. 17, 1994.

Survivors are a daughter, Carol Cordes of New Hampton, a son, Steven W. Cordes of Seminole, FL., grandchildren, Stacy and Kevin Cordes, brothers Wilbur Cordes of Allison, William Cordes of Parker, CO., a sister, Alice Younker of Ackley, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Cordes was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church and was a 54 year member of the American Legion Post #191.
