Iowa Honor Roll

These Iowans, like those pictured here on previous Sundays, have given their lives for their country. They were fatally wounded in combat or died in prison camps. The fourth line under each name designates the war area in which the man last served.

Robert Wendell Coffin was born Jan. 2, 1917 to William J. and Catherine Menderson Coffin. He died Nov. 14, 1943 and is memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines and has a cenotaph in Harlington Cemetery, Waverly, IA.

Warrant Officer Coffin served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Barton (DD-599) which was sunk in the first naval battle of Guadalcanal. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
