Peter Elmer AKA Elmer Christiansen was born Sept. 9, 1918 to Christian T. and Emma Larsen Christiansen. He died Nov. 30, 1942 and is buried in Bethany Lutheran Cemetery, Kimballton, IA and memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.

Petty Officer Christiansen served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS New Orleans (CA-32) and was MIA/FOD/KIA in the Solomon Islands in the Pacific. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Petty Officer Christiansen’s FOD is Dec. 1, 1943. His gravestone in Bethany Lutheran Cemetery shows “In Memoriam”.
