Oran Francis Cary

 

 

Oran Francis Cary was born Dec. 11, 1914 to Earl D. and Edith May Bell Cary. He died Oct. 24, 1944 and is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines and has a cenotaph in Drakesville Cemetery, Drakesville, IA.

Petty Officer Cary served in World War II with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific fleet. He was captured on Corregidor and made the march to Bataan, later shipped on a Japanese freighter which was sunk by American airmen and lost his life at that time. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
