S/Sgt. Norman Lee Carter

 

Norman Lee Carter was born Aug. 1, 1917 to Agile and Neva Carter in Adair, Mayes County, Oklahoma. He was married to Velma Katherine Carter. He was killed in action on Sept. 12, 1944. and is buried in the Netherlands American Cemetery located in Margraten, Netherlands.

S/Sgt. Normal L. Carpenter served in World War II with the 8th Air Force, 493rd Bomber Group, 863rd Bomber Squadron where he served as the Ball Turret Gunner. He was killed on a mission to Magdeburg, Germany.

He graduated from Keokuk High School in 1936 where he played basketball, baseball and football.
