Duane Howard Burtnett was born Feb. 16, 1925 to William and Gladys Howell Burtnett. He died May 2, 2014 and is buried in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, IA.

Sgt. Burtnett served in the Philippines with the U.S. Army in World War II.

Obituary:

Duane H. Burtnett, 89, of Webster City, died Friday, May 2, 2014 at the Van Diest Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Foster Chapel, with Rev. Chris Burtnett officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday and prior to the service.

Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #191.

Duane Howard Burtnett, son of William and Gladys (nee Howell) Burtnett, was born February 16, 1925 in the Mercy Hospital at Webster City. He received his education in the Kamrar Public School, graduating in 1942. While attending Webster City Junior College, he played basketball. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army in the Philippines. On January 23, 1949, he married Vera Mae Hansen at Webster City. The couple resided at Blairsburg and Webster City. He had been employed at Luppes Propane, Ferrellgas and was service manager for United Co-op for 14 years, retiring in 1997.

Mr. Burtnett is survived by his wife, Vera; sons David (Connie) Burtnett of Nevada; Doug (Sue) Burtnett and Dennis Burtnett, all of Webster City; daughter Linda (Ken) Inman of Lincoln, NE; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Audrey) Burtnett of Webster City; a niece, three nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Duane was a member of the Church of Christ, an Elder, former Sunday School superintendent and American Legion Post #191.
