Sgt. Vernon Clifford Burke Jr

 

 

 

Vernon Clifford Burke, Jr. was born Aug. 15, 1923 to Vernon C. (Sr.) and Marguerite Munsell Burke. He died May 12, 1944 and is buried at Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial, Margraten, Netherlands.

Sgt. Burke served as a Tail Gunner in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was part of the crew of #42-31787, 548th Bomber Squadron, 385th Bomber Group, Heavy and was KIA when they were attacked by enemy aircraft and crashed in the forest near Langerhein, Germany. He was awarded the Air Medal and Purple Heart.
