William ‘Bill’ Buckels was born Feb. 19, 1920 to William Francis and Genevieve Willis Buckels. He died Oct 17, 1986 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Jewell, IA.

Cpl. Buckels served with the U.S. Army in World War II.

William Buckels, son of Genevieve Willis Buckels and William F. Buckels was born on a farm north of Jewell on Feb. 19, 1920 and passed away Friday morning, Oct. 17 at the Story City Memorial Hospital. He was 66 years, 7 months and 28 days. He graduated from the Jewell schools and attended Ellsworth college in Iowa Falls. On Sept. 23, 1941 he entered the army and served in the armed forces until August 28, 1945. On July 17, 1958 he was married to Mildred Olson at the First Methodist church in Des Moines. He lived in the Jewell area until 1960 when they moved to their farm south of Story City. Bill sang for many funerals and weddings until his health failed. He was a member of the Story City Legion and a former member of the Mens chorus in Story City.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred, a son, William L. and a daughter, Carmel Geneva, both at home, one brother and his wife, Lloyd and Olava Buckels of Jewell and a brother in law and sister, Myrle and Norma Gene Engelson of Hubbard. And many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, Oct. 20 at 1:30 at the Federated United Church of Christ in Jewell. Pastor Carl Jensen officiated and burial was made in Evergreen Cemetery, Jewell. Pastor Tom Douglass of Gilbert, accompanies by David Ashby, sand “Beyond the Sunset” and “The Lord’s Prayer.” Pallbearers were Dean Peterson, Glen Clem, Myron Rod, Wilbur Klaver, Milt Mussel, H.W. Zimmerman, Ralph Classon and Gerald Brott. Honorary pallbearers were his 1991 st. truck regiment. Military rites were held at the cemetery in charge of Lafayette Post no. 59 of Story City.
