Spirit Lake, Iowa
Pvt. Robert O. Bryan of Spirit Lake has been awarded the bronze star for heroic achievement in combat while serving on the Fifth army front in Italy. He distinguished himself by saving valuable government equipment when an ammunition half-track was hit by enemy fire and caused considerable damage.
