Ellsworth Sailor Was on LCT During Invasion of Italy.

Ellsworth—Roger Brock, 24, GM 3-c, who was wounded Sept. 28, 1943, during the invasion of Italy has been awarded the Purple Heart medal and has sent it home to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Brock, who received the award Saturday.

Brock served as a gunner’s mate third class, aboard an LCT boat in the Mediterranean area, was severely wounded during the establishment of the allied beachhead at Salerno—one of the most bitterly contested areas in the Italian campaign.

The sailor was sent back to the U.S. Nov. 16, for hospitalization and a brief leave to visit his parents.

Following his recovery he reported back at New York City and was soon transferred to Washington, D. C. where he is presently located as a member of the gunner’s staff.

Brock has been in service for approximately two and one-half years.

Roger Roscoe Brock was born June 18, 1910 to Edward and Mary Olive Jones Brock. He died Mar. 14, 1994 and is buried in the French Church Cemetery, Woolstock, IA.
