James Knowles Brereton was born Dec. 24, 1916 to Loring D. and Ellen Knowles Brereton. He died Feb. 7, 1943 and is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing, North Africa American Cemetery, Tunis, Tunisia and has a cenotaph at Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg, IA.
Capt. Brereton served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps and was MIA/FOD and was awarded the Purple Heart and Air Medal.
