Morris Kent ‘Kent’ Boyd was born Oct. 30, 1921 to Arthur K. and Julia C. Larson Boyd. He died July 31, 1969 and is buried in Oak Wood Cemetery, Ackley, IA.

Morris served with the U.S. Navy Air Force in World War II.

KENT BOYD OF ACKLEY DIES SUDDENLY

Kent Boyd, 47, of Ackley passed away suddenly July 31st at the Ackley Hospital. Kent was raised in the Stanhope community graduating from the Stanhope High School.

Mr. Boyd was a long time Ackley-Geneva Community high school Industrial Arts Teacher and had been a member of the faculty since the fall of 1947. During his years in Ackley he gave much time to school, community and church projects. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Ackley and served as church treasurer.

Mr. Boyd was stricken with a heart attack on Saturday, July 26, and succumbed Thursday, July 31. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul O. Pfaltzgraff officiating. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery.

Morris Kent Boyd, son of Arthur and Julia Larson Boyd was born in Zearing on October 30, 1921. His family lived in the Gilbert and Stanhope communities during his childhood and youth. After graduating from high school he attended the University of Northern Iowa (then Iowa State Teachers College) at Cedar Falls. He graduated from there in 1947 after serving in the United States Naval Air Force.

He was married to Betty Wilson of Jewell, on June 14, 1947 and they moved to Ackley where Mr. Boyd began teaching in the public schools where he served up to the time of his death.

Surviving are his wife, Betty; four children, Douglas, Alan, Nancy and David; his mother, Mrs. Julia Boyd of the Presbyterian Home in Ackley and two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Holland of Boone and Mrs. Viola Cousen.

The Arthur Boyd family lived on a farm two miles east of Stanhope. Several farm neighbors attended the funeral Monday.
