Maj. Robert M. Blackburn

 

 

Robert Medbury Blackburn was born Aug. 29, 1920 to James Clark and Margaret Medbury Blackburn. He died Mar. 25, 1945 and is buried in Ardennes American Cemetery, Neupre, Belgium.

Major Blackburn served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 509th Fighter Squadron, 405th Fighter Group and was MIA/FOD/KIA as the pilot of a P-47 (Thunderbolt) fighter plane on a reconnaissance mission to Dortmund, Germany. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Silver Star, Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and Distinguished Flying Cross with Oak Leaf Cluster and the French Croix De Guerre.
