Pvt. Boyd Lester Berven

 

 

 

Boyd Lester Berven was born Oct. 14, 1920 to Severt L. and Frankie M. Blue Berven. He died Feb. 12, 2014 and is buried in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, IA.

Pvt. Berven served with the U.S. Army in World War II with the 2810th Engineer Co.

Obituary for Boyd L. Berven

He was born October 14, 1920 near Kamrar, IA to Severt & Frankie (Blue) Berven. He attended rural Hamilton County schools & attended Kamrar High School.

Boyd answered his nations call and joined the Army in 1943. He served with the 2810th Engineer Company until his honorable discharge in 1946.

On June 22, 1947, he married Ruth Brinkema. They started married life in Webster City, before moving to farm near Stanhope in 1949. He was honored as Iowa Master Swine Producer in 1966. Boyd retired from farming in 1984.

He enjoyed wood carving & showcased his work by making birds and bears for the family. At age 65, he took up golf and played until his middle 80’s. He & Ruth loved their family. They would often travel to spend time with them. After moving to Southfield, Boyd enjoyed visiting with his early morning friends over coffee.

Boyd was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Main Street Kiwanis.
His family includes daughter Jean Bateman of Independence, IA; son Bruce (Ann) Berven of Ankeny, IA; brother Stanley Berven of Abliene, KS; five grandchildren Trent Bateman, Jill (Rich) Haberkorn, Mark (Tammy) Berven, Brenda (Tom) Perry & Jeffrey (Tanya) Berven and 14 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son-in-law Richard Batemen, brother Lyle Berven & sister Helen Wilson.

Boyd L. Berven, 93, of Webster City, died Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Van Diest Medical Center in Webster City. His funeral service will be held Monday at 3:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Webster City. Burial with military honors will be at Graceland Cemetery in Webster City. A visitation will be held Sunday from 3 - 5 PM at Boman Funeral Home in Webster City.~Boman Funeral Home, Webster City, IA
