Francis Walter Bernard was born Oct. 1, 1918 to Frank E. and Helena L. Schutt Bernard. He died Aug. 17, 1996 and is buried in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, IA.

Sgt. Bernard served with the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving in Australia.

Francis W. Bernard, 76, Webster City, died Aug. 17, 1995, at the Hamilton County Public Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with Rev. Mark Bucchop officiating. Burial will be at the Graceland Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post No. 191. Visitation will be at Foster Funeral Home after 3 p.m. Sunday until 8 a.m. Monday, when the casket will be taken to the church.

Francis Walter Bernard, son of Frank and Helena Schutt Bernard, was born Oct. 1, 1918, on a farm near Woolstock. He attended a rural school and graduated from Lincoln High School in Webster City. He served with the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945 in Australia. On June 5, 1946, he married Eleanor Luppes in Webster City. The couple resided in Webster City. He was employed at Beam’s (Frigidaire) for 46 years. He retired in November of 1984.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Bernard, Webster City; daughter Patricia Bernard, Calamus; sons and daughters-in-law Berkeley and Janice Bernard, Okemos, Mich., Rodney and Sally Bernard, Clear Lake, Kevin and Karen Bernard, Elk Hart; grandchildren; Matthew Bernard, Maribeth Bernard; Ryan Reinier, Heather Reinier, Samantha Reinier; sisters Maxine Turnell, Elm Creek, Neb., Stella Neese, Webster City; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Bernard was a member of the Golden Key Kiwanis and the American Legion Post No. 191.
