Robert Cecil Bergman was born Mar. 10, 1927 to Carl Edward and Florence Ann Anderson Bergman. He died June 27, 2002 and is buried in the Hardin Township Cemetery, Stratford, IA.

Robert served with the U.S. Navy in World War II in the South Pacific.

Robert Cecil Bergman, 75, of Stratford, passed away at the Stratford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Thursday morning, June 27, 2002 due to complications from a stroke. He had been a resident of the Stratford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center since June of 1996.

He was born on March 10, 1927 in Stratford, Iowa, the son of Carl and Florence (Anderson) Bergman.

On November 27, 1955 he married Phyllis A. Pearson at the Lutheran Church in Milford, Iowa.

Robert was a veteran of World War II serving with the Navy in the South Pacific. After being discharged from the Navy he returned to the Stratford area and worked odd jobs before becoming a heavy machine operator for Hallett Construction where he worked for 25 years before his early retirement in 1984 due to Parkinson's Disease.

He was a member of the Stratford American Legion Fredrick Sonksen Post #576 and the International Union of Operating Engineers. Robert enjoyed woodworking and raising vegetables in his garden.

His parents, two sisters, Patricia Peterson and Shirley Iles, two stepsons, Frank Baysinger and Orval Baysinger, one step-grandson, Stephen Baysinger, and one great-step-grandson, James Baysinger preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis of Stratford, Iowa, one son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Cosette Bergman of Boone, Iowa, one daughter and son-in-law, Candis and Jody Gardner of Maxwell, Iowa; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; three brothers, Howard, Ronald and Jerry Bergman all of Stratford, Iowa; one sister, Norma Jacobsen of Stratford, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

The body was cremated. Memorial services were held on Saturday morning, June 29 at 11:00 a.m. at the Stratford Lutheran Church with Pastor Joe Lambert officiating.

Interment with military honors by the Fredrick Sonksen Post #576 of Stratford was in Hardin Township Cemetery southwest of Stratford.

Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Stratford, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.
