Relna Cecil Bennett was born Dec. 8, 1920 to Jessie Raymond and Amy Alice Newland Bennett. He died Oct. 17, 1995 and is buried in the Ames Municipal Cemetery, Ames, IA.

Relna served with the U.S. Army in World War II. He graduated from Gilbert High School, Story County, Iowa.

Relna Bennett, 74, Jewell, died Oct. 17, 1995, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday at Adams Funeral Home in Ames, with Rev. Charles Alber officiating. Burial will be at Ames Municipal Cemetery in Ames. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Relna Cecil Bennett, son of Raymond and Amy Alice Newland Bennett, was born Dec. 8, 1920, in Hall’s Summit, Kan. On March 14, 1946, he married Doris Lillian Mason in Perry Center, N.Y. He was educated and graduated from Gilbert High School. He was employed as a farmer, retiring in 1976. He then worked at Allen Machine Shop in Ames from 1976 to 1983. He served in the U.S. Army and in World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Bennett, Jewell; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Curt Smith, Webster City; grandson, Jay Smith, Webster City; granddaughter, Jane Smith, Webster City; sister, Barbara Devitt, Ankeny; two brothers, Derrell Bennett, Ankeny, and Wilbur Bennett, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dale Bennett; brother, Virgil Bennett; and sister, Lorene Ruff.

Mr. Bennett was a member of the Story City Post and the American Legion.
