Maurice Whitfield Bell was born Oct. 1, 1913 to Joseph Whitfield and Hilda Matilda Hansen Bell. He died Aug. 28, 1960 and is buried in Highland Memory Gardens, Des Moines, IA.

Petty Officer Bell served with the U.S. Navy in World War II aboard the USS Bollinger (APA-234).

Bell Services Wednesday

Funeral services for Maurice Bell, 46, former Blairsburg resident, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Highland Park funeral home in Des Moines with burial in a Des Moines Cemetery.

Mr. Bell died suddenly Sunday afternoon in Nebraska while enroute home from a vacation trip to Denver, Colo. Mr. and Mrs. Bell and their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Peterson of Omaha, had been in Denver visiting with the Bells’ son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Bell.

Mr. Bell was born Oct. 1, 1914 at Blairsburg, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bell. He received his education in the Blairsburg community and grew to young manhood there. He was married Aug. 31, 1935 to Ranny Ritter of Blairsburg.

Surviving are his wife; his son, Gary; his daughter, Mrs. Bill (Sharon) Peterson; one granddaughter; four sisters, Mrs. Floyd Robie of clarion Mrs. Torges Halsne, Blairsburg; Mrs. Gaylord Ballantine, Hammond, Ind. and Mrs. Ted Hanson of Illinois, and one brother, Robert Bell of Des Moines.
