Sidney (Sr.) and Caroline Johnson Bell were the parents of four sons serving in World War II:

Melvin Sidney Bell was born Oct. 10, 1913. He died Sept. 15, 2000 and is buried in the Storm Lake Cemetery, Storm Lake, IA.

Melvin Sidney Bell, son of Sidney and Caroline Johnson Bell, was born Oct. 10, 1913 at Williams. He was baptized and confirmed in 1925 at the United Methodist Church in Williams. Mel lived with his parents in Williams, where he attended Silvernail Country School and then Williams High School in 1931. He received his B.A. degree from Iowa State Teachers College in 1940, then went on to Iowa State University, where he received his M.S. degree and also took graduate courses at the University of Iowa.

Mel married Annabel L. Ruggles on May 24, 1938 at Birmingham. To this union three daughters were born: Connie, Muriel and Carolyn.

Mel worked as a country school teacher for five years, 10 years as a high school teacher, 12 years as assistant division head at ALCOA production and control and nine years on the Iowa State faculty.

He retired in June 1976. His hobbies were music, golf, bowling, traveling and gardening. Mel entered the U.S. Navy in July 1943. He held the rank of Ensign and served in the European theater in France and Germany. He received an honorable discharge on March 13 1946 and retired from the Navy Reserve on October 18, 1973.

Mel passed away suddenly on Tuesday, September 5, 2000 at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Everette, Sidney, Jr. and Thomas.

Everette Lyle Bell was born Dec. 25, 1919. He died Dec. 11, 1990 and is buried in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Des Moines, IA.

Pvt. Bell served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II with the U.S. Air Force Weather Service and attended Air Traffic Control School.

Everette L. Bell, 70, Des Moines, formerly of Williams, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, following a heart ailment. Funeral services were held today at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, with burial of cremains in the Merle Hay Mausoleum, both in Des Moines. The Merle Hay Funeral Home of Des Moines was in charge of arrangements.

Everette L. Bell was born in Williams, and had lived in Des Moines since 1956. He was a retired teacher, and was a veteran of World War II. He had been residing at the Calvin Manor Care Center in Des Moines.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lois, Des Moines; two sons, Steven Bell, Dayton, Ohio,and Marvin Bell of Leawood, Kan.; three brothers, Melvin Bell, Ames; Thomas Bell, Hampton; Marion Bell, Iowa Falls; three sisters, Lenore Jensen, Webster City; Irene Mayo, Pocahontas; Jane Olson, Williams; and four grandchildren.

Mr. Bell was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Des Moines.

Thomas Dale Bell was born Jan. 29, 1922. He died Oct. 24, 1999.

Thomas served with the U.S. Army in World War II.

Marion Richard ‘Mike’ Bell was born June 4, 1926. He died Dec. 11, 2012 and is buried in Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls, IA.

Marion served with the U.S. Navy in World War II.

IOWA FALLS - Marion "Mike" Bell, 86, of Iowa Falls, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at the Presbyterian Village, Ackley.
Memorial services for Mike Bell will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Linn's Funeral Home Chapel, 1521 Washington Avenue, Iowa Falls.

A time of visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at the Linn's Funeral Home, with military honors provided by Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post No. 188, Iowa Falls. Private family inurnment will be at the Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls.
