Cpl. Robert Oliver Beckwith

 

 

 

Robert Oliver Beckwith was born Nov. 7, 1909 to Herbert and Pearl Friday Beckwith. He died Aug. 8, 1989 and is buried in Hillcrest Cemetery in Albert Lea, MN.

Cpl. Beckwith served with the U.S. Army in World War II with the 66th Armored Infantry Battalion in Germany. He was living in Webster City, IA, at the time that he entered the military WWII service.

Robert O. Beckwith, 79, Albert Lea, Minn., died Tuesday, Aug. 8, at the St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea. Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 11, at 2 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in Albert Lea, Rev. Jim L. Papandrea officiating. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Albert Lea.

Robert O. Beckwith, son of Herbert and Pearl Friday Beckwith, was born Nov. 7, 1909 in Diller, Neb. He married Faye Rechow on Sept. 17, 1933, in Carleton, Neb. He was employed with Fareway Stores Inc. in Webster City. He worked as custodian in the central and southwest schools in Albert Lea, and was manager of maintenance at the Skyline Mall in Albert Lea from December 1966 to the early 1980s.

He is survived by his wife Faye, Albert Lea; two brothers, Ralph Beckwith, Boone; and Dick Beckwith Fortuna, Calif.; a sister, Ethel Fanders, Paradise, Calif.; and other relatives.

Mr. Beckwith was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, was a World War II veteran of the 66th Armored Infantry in Europe, was a member of the American Legion and Western Star A.F. & A.M., and the El-Kahir Temple in Cedar Rapids.

Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church Organ Fund in Albert Lea.
