Martin Patrick Bamrick - Aviation Electronic's Mate Second Class U.S. Navy - Iowa County

Williamsburg--Martin Patrick Bamrick was born March 28, 1921 in Cerro Gordo County near Doughtery, Iowa, the son of James Martin and Bridgette (Gallagher) Barrack. He grew up in the Dougherty and Rockwell communities. He graduated from Iowa State University with a BS in Animal Science. Martin served in the United States Navy during WWII from 1942 to 1946 as an Aviation Electronic mate 2nd class. Martin was united in marriage to Margaret Nancy Tellor on August 17, 1957 in Minneapolis, MN. The couple lived in Webster City for a number of years before Moving to Williamsburg in 1969. He was a Cattle Buyer for 33 years working for Rath Packing, Dubuque Packing, Davenport Packing, Swift Independent Packing. After he retired he worked part time for NCS until he was 89. Martin was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and an active member of the Iburg Poulson VFW Post #8797. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports, along with Iowa State, the Hawkeyes and Cubs. Martin passed away Friday, June 23, 2017 with his family by his side at the Highland Ridge Care Center in Williamsburg at the age of 96 years.

He is survived by three children: Katherine Bamrick of Coralville, Jim Bamrick of Williamsburg and Susan (Dr. Michael) O’Donnell of Tipton; son-in-law, Charles Buckner of Wyoming, OH; 8 grandchildren: Amy Holt, Bridget Bamrick, Colin Bamrick, Chad O’Donnell, Elizabeth O’Donnell, Matthew O’Donnell, Gabrielle Webster and Katrina Keohane; 9 great-grandchildren.

7 siblings: Mary Skyles of Dubuque, Joseph (Jean) Bamrick of Rockwell, Jack (Eunice) Bamrick of Dubuque, Richard (Pat) Bamrick of Long Beach, Ca, Bridgette (Tawfik) Sole of Charlotte, NC, Marjorie Nowell of Waukesha, WI and Paul Bamrick of Rockwell, a brother-in-law Joe Kapler of Dubuque. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Nancy in 2012, a daughter Nancy Buckner and a sister Helen Kapler.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Williamsburg. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg, where there will be a K of C Rosary at 3:45 pm followed by a Prayer Service at 4:00 pm. There will be a VFW service at 7:00 pm Monday. Memorials are for St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
