Sanborn boys in the Normandy invasion are Pfc. Martin Vlaining, Cpl. John Bausema, Pfc. Jake Van Rees and Pfc. Frederick Bakker.

Frederick “Fred” Bakker was born May 1, 1918 to Bouke “John” and Trientje Holtrop Bakker. He died Feb. 16, 2018 and is buried in Roseland Cemetery, Sanborn, IA.
Fred served in World War II with the U.S. Army and was wounded twice.
